Through the Platform of Phalke Academy, the Industry is paying tribute to the Father of Indian Cinema on every 30th April, since the year 2000, by celebrating PHALKE JAYANTI and on this day the Seniors of all Crafts and other Sectors from a Labour to a Legend are honored by the Academy’s Trophies. THE FUNCTION HAS NOW BECOME THE NEED OF THE FILM INDUSTRY.
But, the said event is being organized in all hardships. Till now, though appealed earlier, the Pillars of the Film Industry are away from this holy Function of DADASAHEB PHALKE, as no monitory support has come from them. Aprat from Phalke Jayanti and various other works, the Academy got re-named Film City as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari and installed there the Full Size Bronze Statue of Dadasaheb Phalke for which the Industry People feel proud for giving due respect to their Father.
I have no hesitation in saying that due to the paucity of Funds, we have not been able to purchase own Office Premises of the Academy and engage regular Staff. We want to celebrate Phalke Jayanti on a bigger scale. There is also need of old age medical & pension fund for help to old age and needy film people. And these all need funds. I propose to one and all of the Film Industry, particularly those who are capable, specially the Top stars, Makers, that a Fund of Rs. Five Crores for Phalke Causes and old age Medical & Pension Fund be made, out of which one crore shall be utilized for Phalke Premises and another Rs.One Crore corpus, as Bank Deposit, to earn interest which shall be utilized for Phalke Jayanti Celebrations on a good scale and the balance of Rs. Three crores be kept as corpus, which is just a beginning, the Bank interest of which be used for help to old age and needy film people, Some of our stars may help by Donations, which are Income Tax Free U/S 80-G or even can manage the Funds by organizing some event. Due publicity will be given to the Donors.
I feel that managing just Rs.5 crores is a drop in the Ocean of Film Industry leaded by our Super Stars, to make feel proud to the Father of Indian Cinema that his Sons and Daughers have not left him alone to struggle in the Film Industry to which he had given birth, to whom the Industry owe much, as Millions & Millions people are earning their bread butter and many are blessed by name fame and un-heard wealth.
I also appeal to the Press and Media to write Editorials and columns to create awareness and Revolution for serving the Father of Indian Cinema.
With regards,
Santosh Singh Jain
